Construction at The Railyards has
begun!
We are thrilled to report that on April 23,
2009, as hundreds of project supporters looked on, we
began construction on the initial infrastructure phase at The
Railyards. CLICK

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by
Sacramento Mayor Kevin
Johnson, numerous other federal, state and local dignitaries, business leaders, and project team members, along with
representatives of Thomas Enterprises.
In response to the
groundbreaking announcement, California
State Treasurer Bill Lockyer said "The
Railyards project
is an economic and environmental boon to Sacramento. After
cleaning years of pollution and neglect from the land, it will create
jobs, provide housing, and infuse much needed dollars into the local
economy. I’m glad my office could play a part in making this
outstanding project a reality."

The grading work is the first phase in
completing significant roadway
projects that include Railyards Boulevard, Fifth Street, Sixth Street,
and two bridges
and viaducts on Fifth and Sixth Streets opening
arterial access to The Railyards.
Our heartfelt
gratitude to everyone who attended the groundbreaking and especially to
all our project partners, team members, and project supporters who
devote their time, energy and resources to The Railyards project.
Cap-to-Cap '09
Sacramento Metro Chamber's annual
Cap-to-Cap effort in Washington, D.C. is one of the Chamber's
activities that brings the region's business, labor and government
leaders together to build consensus for important regional
priorities. This year, the Railyards track relocation project was
the delegation's number one transportation priority and the
Railyards was featured at the
Welcome Breakfast. U.S.
Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood
spoke at the breakfast and said he is committed to being a "full
partner" with the Sacramento region. Mayor Kevin Johnson met with Secretary
LaHood and discussed additional
federal stimulus funding opportunities for The Railyards and the
region. To date, The Railyards has received $20
million in federal stimulus dollars for the track
relocation project.
Proposition 1C Round 2
In April, we submitted
our applications for Round 2 of the State of California Department of
Housing and Community Development (HCD) Infill Infrastructure Grant and
TOD Housing Programs. We anticipate news from the HCD on the
status of this year's applications in June.
