Very
good news for the development came late June with
the announcement of additional public
infrastructure funding for The Railyards.
The infrastructure teams including the track
relocation team continue to make great
progress.
Proposition 1C Round
2
The results are in! We’re very
pleased to report that The Railyards was
recommended for an award of $30.9 million in
infrastructure funding by the California
Department of Housing and Community Development’s
Loan and Grant Committee (HCD). This award will
allow us to build additional public infrastructure
and it demonstrates the continued tremendous
commitment of the State of California to this
development effort. Three additional infill and/or
transit-oriented development projects in the City
of Sacramento will receive awards totaling $24.9
million from the State’s Prop 1C grant programs.
Congratulations to Township 9, Curtis Park
Village, and Capitol Lofts on their awards! We
appreciate the City’s leadership in advocating for
funding for multiple projects. We extend a special
thank you to Mayor Kevin Johnson, Councilmembers
Rob Fong, Lauren Hammond and Ray Tretheway for
attending the HCD hearing and speaking on behalf
of these projects. “This is a step in the right
direction for our city in terms of economic
development and creation of employment
opportunities in Sacramento,” said Mayor Kevin
Johnson. “This is a proactive step towards
Sacramento becoming a world class city.”
Construction
Update
Design and construction
efforts at various levels are underway and
progressing well. Plans at 60% level for the I-5
Richards to Railyards Access Improvements Project
have been prepared by David Evans and Associates,
Inc. and are under review by the City. This
includes improvements to Bercut Drive and Jibboom
Street from Richards Boulevard to Railyards
Boulevard. ICF Jones & Stokes is finalizing
the NEPA documents for the Track Relocation
project and the Intermodal Facility. The track
relocation design effort under TranSystems will
sprint into final design following NEPA
completion. Bridge plans at 65% prepared by Quincy
Engineering, Inc. in collaboration with
Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. for the 5th
Street and the 6th Street overpasses over future
tracks south of the historic shops have been
reviewed and approved by the City. Monitoring of
surcharge piles impact on underlying soils at the
location of the 5th Street bridge abutments is
being conducted by F3 and Associates, Inc. under
the supervision of Quincy Engineering and
Blackburn Consulting. Preparation to drive
indicator piles for bridge foundations is also
underway. Teichert Construction has completed the
first grading phase on Railyards Boulevard between
Bercut Drive and 7th Street. Import of soil for
vegetative cover continues by Taylor Heavy Hauling
under the supervision of Environmental Resources
Management. The amount and pace of infrastructure
will accelerate as infrastructure bond dollars are
received.
We went out to bid recently
on Phase 1 Hazardous Materials, Abatement and
Clean-Up Project on six of the historic Central
Shops buildings. The scope of the project is to
remove and contain asbestos, lead paint and other
hazardous materials abatement from the historic
structures plus decontamination and storage of
historic artifacts and equipment, salvaged wood
and metal scrap, and complete clean-up of building
interiors and exteriors. For more information,

project in a recent Sacramento Press article.
