We hope that you’ve been enjoying the summer with family and friends. Here’s a quick Railyards project update.
Funding Update
Congresswoman Doris Matsui secured $750,000 from an appropriations bill that is expected to go to the Senate shortly for the Sacramento Intermodal Transportation Facility rail line relocation project.
As reported last month, the State HCD Loan and Grant Committee recommended that The Railyards receive an award of $30.9 million by the from Prop 1C grant funds. This award was subsequently confirmed by HCD. We appreciate the support that we have received from the community and regional elected officials, and special thanks to Councilmember Rob Fong for testifying on behalf of The Railyards at the HCD hearings both this year and last and his unwavering support of the project.
SACOG named the Sacramento Intermodal Transportation Facility – Phase Two at The Railyards as its top priority in its recommendation to Caltrans for a $30 million award under ARRA and U.S. Department of Transportation’s Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) federal stimulus grant program. Caltrans is expected to have a statewide list shortly and we hope to be high on the list. We’ll keep you posted.
We are working closely with State of California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) and California State Treasurer’s Office to release infrastructure funds that were awarded in 2008. This effort continues to be our highest priority and we remain hopeful that the funds will be released shortly.
Construction Update
The track relocation team continues to press ahead. Design at various levels is progressing well. The pace of construction will accelerate after infrastructure bond dollars begin to flow.
We went out to bid on Phase 1 Hazardous Materials, Abatement and Clean-Up Project on six of the historic Central Shops buildings and are in final negotiations with the successful abatement subcontractor. The work will be overseen by ERM and is expected to commence this month. The scope of the project is to remove and contain asbestos, lead paint and other hazardous materials abatement from the historic structures.
In preparation to commence abatement work on the historic Central Shops buildings, we toured representatives from the California Pollution Control Financing Authority (CPCFA) at The Railyards on July 28, 2009.
