Thomas Enterprises and the City of Sacramento are continuing to move forward with development of the largest urban infill project in the nation, in spite of challenging economic times. The Railyards will have a lasting, positive impact on the entire Sacramento region with the creation of thousands of new jobs and billions of dollars in economic impact.
New Roads at The Railyards
Last month, the California Transportation Commission granted $18 million in Proposition 1B bond funds in order to extend 6th and 7th Streets to the north and to build bicycle and pedestrian paths to connect The Railyards to the downtown and areas to the north. The money will also be used to add safe grade crossings to minimize potential accidents. The award follows the recent approval of $47 million in July from the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) Proposition 1C grant program to create infrastructure and affordable housing near transit. Private investment in the project is slated to top $6 billion.
1-5 Richards to Railyards Transportation Improvements Workshop
In late August, the public was invited to attend a public workshop to discuss two major transportation projects at The Railyards; the 1-5 Richards Boulevard project and the Sacramento Intermodal Transportation Facility, including the planned relocation of the Union Pacific rail line to the north. Special thanks to the office of Congresswoman Doris Matsui which is coordinating efforts among federal and state transportation agencies to keep the track relocation on schedule.
Thank you Celebration/Food Bank Donations
Earlier this month, Thomas Enterprises hosted an old-fashioned barbecue at the historic Paint Shop to pay tribute to the public-private partnerships that have been created to help The Railyards development become a reality. Participants were asked to donate a can of food and the generous proceeds were delivered to the Sacramento Food Bank. Attendees included Jerry Way, City of Sacramento transportation director, Suheil Totah, vice-president, Thomas Enterprises and California State Parks Director Ruth Coleman, (all pictured below) as well as Nathan Dietrich, district director for Congresswoman Doris Matsui. The team from Environmental Resources Management (ERM) which is responsible for soil clean-up at the former Union Pacific railyard was also recognized. Several hundred supporters (at right) were on hand to celebrate recent important project milestones.

Railyards Team in the Community
Dozens of Railyards supporters joined "Team Alex" at the UC Davis M.I.N.D Institute on Sunday, September 28 and walked to support families and find a cure for autism at the first annual Walk Now for Autism event. Hundreds of others pledged their financial support to help the team exceed its fundraising goal and raise more than $22,000 for autism research, the most of any participating Sacramento-area team.
Thanks to everyone for your time and generous donations!
